Ion Pair Chromatography (IPC)

Abstract IPC is used for ionic compounds which are difficult to separate on a covalently bonded ion-exchanger and for samples with widely different components, e.g neutral and ionic compounds. Ion pair chromatography is performed on standard reversed phase columns. The mobile phase consists of modifier(s) and a aqueous buffer solution, to which an ion pair reagent is added at low concentration.
This chapter provides practice oriented basic guidance.
