Background in chromatography is often missing.
Peter Schoenmakers, Harold McNair and Pat Sandra are the founders of the ‘Year of Education’ in Separation Science. They observed a definite need to improve competences to keep up with the growth and development of instrumental chromatography.Chromedia and separationsNOW support this initiative with a number of educational actions. "We realised that people taking our courses or sending us emails, asking for help, had little to no background in chromatography... and therefore it became essential to start with the fundamentals: not only the theory, but also the practice, and to use some sort of unique, unbiased, interactive method of teaching all of those things."
Chromatography is safeguard for human life.
"The standard of living of this world depends on separation science: the air we monitor, the water we drink, the food we eat... chromatography still stands out in my mind as the one of the essential safeguards of human life on this planet."
Number of competent people is rapidly decreasing.
"There is a rapidly growing gap between the number of measurements we need to do and the number of people that are qualified to perform such analyses. So we need to make people aware of the importance of good chromatography and good measurements, and boost the number of qualified people. We are convinced that books alone cannot solve the problem." "There's jobs for good chromatographers".
