Welcome to the 100th issue – and the Top 100 performers in analytical science! As part of the celebrations, you’ll find a “joint” In My View from 15 of this year’s Power Listers, who reveal the single biggest challenge facing the field; our science slam, featuring early career researchers and their “elevator pitches;” as well as the Power List itself: find out what this year’s nominees had to say about instruments they couldn’t live without, their heroes and what they might be doing in another life. Last but not least, we Sit Down With Matthias Mann, “The Proteomics Ethicist.” Some articles will be online before we send off the printed version. Stay tuned.
Harold McNair †
On June 27, 2021, Harold McNair – a titan of gas chromatography and author of many of Chromedia's articles and video sessions – passed away. Harold was a beloved colleague and friend to many in the analytical chemistry field, not to mention a great communicator, mentor, and teacher, and there is no doubt he will be sorely missed.
His impact on the field of analytical chemistry was felt far and wide, so we’d like to take a moment to pay tribute to this outstanding figure of our community. Here is a link to a selection of articles dedicated to Harold that have featured in The Analytical Scientist through the years, including a touching tribute from some of his past students – Kevin Schug, Nicholas Snow, Vince Remcho, Chris Palmer, and Lee Polite.
